Professional Profile:

Mrs. Garcia-Parks has always known she wanted to be a teacher even as far back as 5th grade career dress-up day. She has taught 3rd, 4th, and 6th grades. She began teaching 4th grade in Dec. 2013. From 2015-2018, she departmentalized and taught Math/Science. In 2018, she dropped to 3rd grade and taught all subjects. In 2019, she made the move to RSGA (6th grade) where she taught Math for 3 years. Her love for teaching shines through in the way she aims to connect with each of her students and build lasting relationships with each and everyone of them.

 

Personal Profile:

Mrs. Garcia-Parks is married with two girls: Veronica (15) and Kori (2.) As a family, they enjoy visiting the beach, swimming, doing crafts together, doing diamond/gem art, baking, and watching Netflix shows together (with Veronica, not Kori.) You will see Mrs. Garcia-Parks wearing a lot of Gator gear (even though she’s Amizade.) Her family members are HUGE Florida Gator fans and they enjoy watching Gator football and Gator softball.

ELA/Reading: 

Main idea and details, asking questions, simple and compound sentences, phonics: oa, ow, oe. We will continue practicing using the UNWRAP strategy.

No Vocab/comp test this week;

Cold Read on Thursday

Spelling and grammar tests on Friday.

Math: Chapter Review (Tuesday) 

**Please study at home. The reviews are almost identical to the test. If they know what is on chapter review, they will do well on the chapter test. 

Chapter Test (Wednesday)

Chapter 3 begins on Thursday.

(There will only be homework on Thursday night this week.)

 

Science: Animal Classification 

 

Social Studies: Studies Weekly Week 4: US Government- The newspaper will come home on Thursday. We will have an open "newspaper" test on Friday.

 

 Reminders:

***AR points and averages are entered in as a grade weekly.  Each student should earn at least 3 points per week and keep their test average at 85% or higher. 

***By the end of this week (9/6-9/9), students should have 12 A.R. points.

***Please make sure students are reading each night within their AR level.

Study Island: Each week students will be assigned 3 study island assignments. They'll have center time, tech lab time, and free time in the class throughout the week to complete these. On Friday, we will take their best grade on the assignment and put it in the gradebook.

ELA/Reading: Focus for this week will include:

Author’s purpose, visualizing while reading, realistic fiction, subjects in sentences, using context clues, and recognizing subjects and predicates.

Vocabulary and comprehension test this week will be on Wednesday;

Cold Read will be on Thursday

Spelling and grammar tests are on Friday.

 

Math: Chapter 2: Using Patterns for Foundational Multiplication Facts- Monday and Wednesday we will be doing the F.A.S.T progress monitoring, so those two days we won't have a math lesson. 

(There will only be homework on Tuesday and Thursday nights this week.)

ELA/Reading:  sequence, ask and answer questions, narrative nonfiction, compound words, and subjects in a sentence. ( No vocabulary and comprehension test this week;
Spelling, Grammar, and Cold Read tests are on Friday.) 
 
Math: Chapter 1 Review (Monday) and Chapter 1 Test (Tuesday). We will start Chapter 2 on Wednesday. There will only be homework on Wednesday and Thursday night this week.
 
Science: Structure and Function of Plants

Week of August 14th-18th

 Our 1st week of 3rd grade has been conquered!  The students were amazing as we worked through new procedures, safety measures, and beginning 3rd grade skills.  I am very proud of all of them!

     

Focus for this week will include:

 ELA/Reading:  sequence, visualizing as we read, realistic fiction, commands and exclamations in sentence writing ( Vocabulary and Comprehension test on Wednesday; Spelling test and Grammar test are on Friday. This week we're going to break apart our cold read. We will do the first story on Thursday and the second story on Friday)

Math: Chapter 1 Understand Multiplication and Division of Whole Numbers. We'll have math homework Monday-Thursday this week.

Science: Structure and Function of Plants
